These guidelines describe how we write, check and update every lesson on Learn English for Life, so you know what to expect from our content.
Who we write for
Our readers are learners of English as a second language, from beginners (A1) to advanced users (C1), and the teachers and parents who help them. We write in clear, plain English with short sentences.
How a lesson is built
- We start from a real learner question, such as “When do I use the present perfect?”
- The first paragraph answers it directly in two or three sentences.
- We explain the rule, then show it in many examples from daily life.
- We add tips, the most common mistakes and a short practice quiz with an explanation for every answer.
- Each lesson ends with a summary and answers to frequent questions.
Accuracy and sources
We use British English spelling and check meanings and usage against trusted references, including the Cambridge Dictionary, Oxford Learner’s Dictionaries and the Council of Europe CEFR level descriptions. We link to these sources inside lessons so you can read more.
Levels
Each lesson shows an estimated CEFR level. It helps you choose what to read next; it is not an official assessment.
Corrections and updates
Every lesson shows the date it was last updated. When a reader reports a mistake, we check it and correct the lesson, usually within a week. Send corrections to info@learnenglish4life.com.
Advertising and independence
Advertising pays for the site, but advertisers never choose or change our lessons. Ads are kept out of quizzes and lesson boxes. Any sponsored content is clearly labelled.
