Present Continuous Tense

The present Continuous Tense is also known as the present progressive tense.

The present continuous tense is used to describe the following situations.

  1. An activity which is happening now or at the moment of speaking.

Examples: 

  • I am eating an ice cream.
  • She is studying now.
 

    2. An activity happening around now, but perhaps not at the moment of speaking.

  • She is following an English course.
  • I am studying French at University. 
 

    3. A planned future arrangement.

  • I am doing my final exams at the end of this month.
  • I am watching a movie tonight.

AFFIRMATIVE FORM

Examples:

  • I am eating an apple.
  • I am doing my homework.
  • I am talking with my teacher.
  • She is reading a book.
  • He is climbing a tree.
  • It is raining now.
  • The baby is crying for milk.
  • We are playing
  • The girls are dancing for a beautiful song.
  • They are learning Spanish.

Rewrite the sentences with the correct answers.

Example:

NEGATIVE FORM

We can negate the sentence, by adding “NOT” before the ‘ing’ form of the main verb.

Examples:

  • I am not cleaning the room.
  • She is not studying.
  • She is not singing.
  • She is not pretending.
  • He is not writing a letter.
  • Edward is not watching TV now.
  • Anne is not having her lunch.
  • It is not raining now.
  • You are not reading the notes.
  • They are not organizing the party.

INTERROGATIVE FORM

The interrogative (question) form of the present continuous tense is used to ask questions about actions that are happening at the current moment.
